Frederick the Great and the Combat Medic,

Frederick the Great and the Combat Medic, oil painting (ca. 1793-95) by en:Bernhard Rode. "In the 1778 campaign, the king once had his blood let. On the same day there was a cannonade with the enemy which grew so strong that the king found it necessary to ride out himself. The movement caused his vein to open up. The king dismounted from his horse and had his vein bound up by a company medic who was there by chance. A cannonball hit next to him; the medic was startled and trembling; the king, smiling, said to those around them: 'He must not have seen many cannonballs up to now.'"
